Pyrocat Variants and Discovery I have written several blog posts about the various cachetol based film developers I have been using the last few years. So I thought I would post my observations and personal experiences in more of a summary format for anyone who wants to explore a similar path. The only caveat is that these statements are […] |

Obsidian Aqua – Film test In my previous article, Obsidian Aqua first mix, I described how I mixed 200ml Part A at 1/2 strength and created what I now will refer to as OA/2-A. For my film test I needed a part B and I still have plenty of part B from Pyrocat HD mixes which are 750g/liter of Potassium […] |

Obsidian Aqua first mix I had stumbled upon Jay DeFehr’s website a couple of years ago when searching for an alternative to Pyrocat HD which kept failing for me. Obsidian Aqua is a simple two chemical (part A) that is highly concentrated and easy to mix. Like most of the cachetol based developers the goal of this developer is […] |

Ryan Memorial Westview Cemetery Atlanta During the field-trip with NGLFP to Westview Cemetery in Atlanta, all three of us converged on a large monument for Stephen Andrew Ryan upon which sits a mesmerizing mourner. The mourner leans at the base of a rough hewn cross and stone ivy is growing up the sides of the base and cross. Her stare and features […] |

High Shoals Falls I returned a second time to high shoals falls area to shoot with fellow NGLFP member Bryan G. The hike was about the same but not as hot as the first time I visited. We both shot for about 3 hours before the sun became too bright to work any longer. Here are the images […] |

Pyrocat HD Multiple Sheets with Minimal Agitation I must have been feeling brave last night and processed 3 sheets of film at the same time. My experience with Pyrocat HD over the last couple of years has taught me a great deal about how it works when using minimal agitation/semi stand techniques. I altered my normal single sheet dilution to be sure […] |

Pyrocat HD for Two 4×5 Sheets I had taken a couple of shots of the Chattahoochee River after a big tropical storm had dumped a bunch of rain trying to capture the raging waters. However the water was so high that the rocks that normally protrude above the river were completely submerged. And it was near past my normal exposure time […] |

Bergger Pancro 400 and Pyrocat HD Having seen some interesting images a few months back shot on Bergger Panchro 400 I decided to order some and give it a try. Since I usually work with Ilford FP4+ at EI of 100 it was going to be a bit of a challenge to find a suitable scene for a 400 speed film. […] |

Amicalola Creek Amicalola – The Cherokee word for Raging water. The falls at Amicalola state park are the unofficial start of the Appalachian Trail with a 10 mile hike to Springer Mountain. It was the last day of the first quarter of 2018 and I had not shot anything in a while. The weather finally warmed enough […] |

Pyrocat HD as Second Pass Developer I did a little experiment today. I bleached a test print and redeveloped it with Pyrocat HD just to see what would happen. It redeveloped to a nice neutral grey in about 7-8 minutes. Used roughly 10:10:1000 mix. I thought it might stain the paper but it did not seem to or was very subtle. […] |
